Milo Shapiro walked away from his B.S. in Computer Science and fifteen years in Information Technology to pursue his passion: applying improvisation to business practices, presentation skills, and personal development. On his last day, a co-worker whispered, “Whos going to make it fun to work here now?” Milo began studying improvisation in 1990, joined his first troupe in 1992, and began teaching in 1993. He has traveled in the US and Canada to continue his own improvisation education and teaching skills. He served six years as the business manager of the comedy troupe TheatreSports. Through TheatreSports, with whom he performed for 14 years, he worked with at-risk teens using improv to give them a healthier outlet for expression. The former Toastmaster and National Speakers Association board member also offers business services as a speaker, a trainer and a coach. His self-created training program, “TEAMprovising”, has created a team connectedness, improved communication and boosted innovation in diverse groups - ranging from I.T. engineers at Sempra Energy to processing clerks at Computer Science Corporation to customer service operators at San Diego Gas & Electric (during the California energy crisis of 2000) to staff at the U.S. Department of Defense (whose jobs he still cannot discuss!)
Keynote Programs: 1.His solo motivation presentation, “You Gotta FailTo Succeed!” is on risk-taking, developing a better attitude toward taking chances and change, and coping with failure when that comes up. What makes this program so unique is that, for almost half of the hour, Milo leads the whole crowd in improv games played in audience pairs, making this keynote a teambuilder as well as a motivational speech. It has been a hit with the likes of Minolta, Southwest Airlines, the San Diego Housing Commission, and the American Society of Training and Development. 2.In his duo/trio presentation "The IMPROVfessionals Top Tens", Milo creates a top-ten point list on an agreed upon topic (common examples: “management”, “teamwork”, or “sales”). He and his partner(s) perform a ten-game improvisation show that supports the points being made. Important lessons are reinforced, but in a fresh, fun way -- demonstrating that creativity can be applied to any issue. Kodak, Pfizer, and FairIsaac are among those who have praised his creative methods. Program titles vary by the clients desired topic (ie: “Whose Line-Manager Is It Anyway?”) 3.As attendees kept approaching Milo after keynotes asking if he' d be willing to coach them or work with their staff on their public speaking, Milo developed an off-shoot division of his business called Public Dynamics. This coaching and training led to Milo publishing his book “Public Speaking: Get As, Not Zzzzzz' s!” and eventually the development of a keynote with the same name, featuring a lively, story-filled speech with ten key points from the book.
